Close Shumba Bottle Store Petition

A bottle store opened up at the corner of 1st street and 5th street, once a safe and peaceful entry class level residential area, SHUMBA BOTTLE STORE.

This establishment did not follow duo process.

    • They did not display the application on the boundary walls, therefore denying the residents the opportunity to object to this liquor application.

    • It is within 500m of a high school.

Since this establishment has opened, it has turned a once peaceful area into a crime hot spot.

    • Patrons sit and drink on the pavements.

    • Patrons defecate and urinate on the pavements in front of women and children, in front of family homes.

    • Patrons have parties on the pavements.

    • Patrons intimidate and threaten home owners, when they complain about noise and their inebriated behavior.

    • Patrons have turned this area into a litter box.

Numerous complaints to the liquor board by the Councillor representing the residents, have gone unheard by the liquor board director.
Patrons get into their motor vehicles and drive out of the area under the influence of alcohol with no repercussions.
The authorities do not bother to control all the bylaw infractions or criminal behavior.
This bottle store should never have opened in this area.

We the residents of 1st avenue Bezuidenhout valley, desperately petition the city of Johannesburg that this establishment that is not beneficial to our community, that is currently destroying our community, our way of life and our peaceful environment, be closed down for good, as all other attempts to deal with this matter have failed.
